dermal filler

Dermal fillers are gel-like substances used to restore volume, improve facial balance, enhance contours, and smooth fine lines and wrinkles. At VS Therapeutics, fillers are used thoughtfully and conservatively. Our aim is refinement, not over-correction.

How they work

Dermal fillers are comprised of Hyaluronic Acid (HA) – a naturally occurring sugar molecule largely found in the skin, but also the eyes, joints, and connective tissue. HA attracts and holds water making it responsible for keeping our skin hydrated. With correct product choice and placement, dermal fillers can help to address volume loss giving you a refreshed and more youthful look.

What to Expect

Treatment begins with an in-depth consultation to assess proportions, structure and suitability and develop an individualised treatment plan to meet your goals both short and long term. For best results, we recommend gradually building with subtle enhancements. Before treatment a topical numbing agent is applied to the area. Once numb, we cleanse and mark up our injection area. Some initial discomfort is common, but dermal filler products also contain a local anaesthetic which assists to progressively numb the area of treatment. Regular check ins during treatment ensure a successful outcome.

Results

Results are visible straight away, with optimal results seen 2-4 weeks after treatment. Depending on the area and product used, results may last 6–18 months.

As dermal filler is largely made up of HA, it will be gradually metabolised and broken down over time. Duration of effect is dependent on product choice and placement with your own metabolism also being an added variable. A consultation in clinic can give you a more detailed idea of duration of results.

FAQ

  • What are dermal fillers?

Dermal fillers are injectable gel-like substances, often made from hyaluronic acid (a natural body substance), used in non-surgical cosmetic procedures to plump skin, smooth wrinkles and folds (like smile lines), restore lost volume in areas like cheeks and lips, and enhance facial contours, offering immediate results that last months to years. They work by adding hydration and volume, counteracting age-related loss, and are injected under the skin by healthcare providers for a refreshed, more youthful appearance.
